Serial Killers: Theordore Robert "Ted" Bundy

Born: November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont

Number of victims: at least 36, over 100 suspected

Date of murders: 1973 - 1978

Method of murder: Bludgeoning / Strangulation

Location: Washington / Colorado / Utah / Oregon / Idaho / Florida

Arguably America’s most infamous serial killer, Bundy was a necrophile and rapist who lured his young female victims by pretending to be disabled or by posing as a police officer. He then viciously bludgeoned the victim into unconsciousness before transporting her to a remote location where he would rape and strangle her. Often he’d spend time with the corpse after death sometimes even revisiting the decomposing body days later to engage in sexual acts.

At least 36 women and young girls died at his hands, most of them bearing some resemblance to his former fiancee. Law officers suspect his involvement in more than 100 murders.

After twice escaping custody, Bundy was eventually captured in Pensacola, Florida, on  February 15, 1978. He was executed in the electric chair on January 24, 1989.
